BEARD CARE & MAINTENANCE: 4 ESSENTIAL RECOMMENDATIONS

BEARD CARE & MAINTENANCE: 4 ESSENTIAL RECOMMENDATIONS

Now that you’ve grown out your beard and gone through those initial stages of beard growth, it’s time to learn about beard maintenance. Having a beard maintenance routine will ensure your beard is thriving long-term. Having a solid and effective beard maintenance routine should always start with general personal upkeep, such as; getting enough sleep, having a balanced healthy diet, drinking enough water, regular exercise, and minimising stress where possible. To help you with your beard care routine, we’ve complied 4 essential recommendations you should think about adding to your routine.

1. WASH YOUR BEARD + SKIN BENEATH

Washing your beard regularly helps keep it clean & removes excess product build-up, dead skin cells, dust, pollutants, and bacteria. Exfoliating the skin beneath your beard will help prevent ingrown hairs and clogged up pores. Our solid shampoo bars contain Vitamin E, Cocoa Butter and Shea Butter to provide potent hydration. Our range of uniquely crafted beard oils and beard balms are infused with essential oils such as Tea Tree and Eucalyptus which contain anti-bacterial  and anti-fungal properties. This may help combat skin irritation and breakouts. Follow-up each beard wash with a few drops of beard oil to re-condition and moisturise the hair follicles.

We recommend you check the skin under your beard periodically for cuts, sores or breakouts. Catching potential issues early on can help you adjust your grooming routine & products accordingly and prevent the issue from worsening.

2. TRIM YOUR BEARD

If you can, visit a barber when you need the ends of your beard trimmed. Depending on the beard style you are wanting to, trimming will vary.

Otherwise, get yourself some grooming tools and DIY. Remember, don’t trim when your beard when it is wet. If you trim it when it is wet, once your beard is dry, the hair strands will shrink back and you will lose that evenness.

One more thing, don’t forget to take proper care of your grooming tools. This will help prevent the build-up of hair, dead skin cells, and bacteria on the tools. Follow the care instructions included with your tools. Here are some general guidelines you can follow:

  • Rinse and dry razors before storing,
  • It is best to change razor blades every 5 to 7 shaves or whenever the blade appears dull or damaged,
  • Discard rusty/damaged razors or clippers,
  • Brush excess hair off your clippers after use,
  • Rinse beard combs and brushes, shake off excess water, and allow to air dry completely before storing,
  • Store your tools in a clean, dry place.

3. MOISTURISE YOUR BEARD

Beard oil will help moisturise and condition hair strands. It will provide important nutrients to help strengthen the hair follicles making them less brittle and prone to breakage. Our beard oil is blended with non-comedogenic oils to ensure your skin pores won’t get clogged up and cause breakouts.

Another way to lock in moisture is by using a beard balm. Beard balms can act as a leave in conditioner and styling product (varying hold strength). Great for longer beards as the waxier texture of the balm helps tame and style fly-away hairs.

Adding in a beard oil and/or balm to your beard maintenance routine can help prevent beardruff (dandruff), hydrate and reduce itchiness. These two products are especially helpful if you live in cold or dry environmental conditions as they give your beard the best possible chance to grow.

4. COMB YOUR BEARD

Brushing or combing your beard everyday will help prevent knots and tangles in your beard. Both the comb and brush help remove dead skin, dust, and left over food from the beard. This will prevent bacterial growth and odour in the beard, keeping is fresh, healthy and thriving. Trimming hairs as needed will help you achieve the style you are wanting and prevent split ends from breakage the hair follicles.

Those with a shorter beard, we recommend using a brush and those with longer beards, a comb is better suited.
